Manchester United is aiming high for their first signing under new manager Ruben Amorim, setting their sights on Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. This Canadian star could be a perfect fit for Amorim’s favored 3-4-3 formation, but there are some big hurdles to overcome before he joins the Red Devils.
Davies, who’s in the final year of his contract with Bayern, might be up for grabs in January at a reduced price. Bayern is ready to let him go to avoid losing him for free next summer. But United faces two main challenges. First, they have a limited budget after spending big in the summer. Second, Real Madrid is also keen on Davies and has been working on a deal for months.
Amorim’s tactical preference for a back three was a deal-breaker for Liverpool and Manchester City when they were considering him as their next manager. However, United’s players might be better suited for this change. Players like Lisandro Martinez could thrive in a more advanced role.
Davies, primarily a left-back at Bayern, has shown he can play in a more advanced role when captaining Canada. He would be an ideal addition to United’s midfield four. But convincing him to choose United over Real Madrid could be tough. Real Madrid is happy to wait until July to sign him for free, which is not ideal for Bayern.
United wants to sign Davies in January, and Bayern is willing to sell. However, unless United can change Davies’ mind about Real Madrid, a deal seems unlikely.
