The scientists tested this new trick with brines from lakes in China. It worked like a charm, opening up the possibility of tapping into about 75% of the world's lithium-rich saltwater sources that haven't been used yet.
"This technology can turn places that were once ignored into goldmines, " said Dr. Zhikao Li, one of the scientists. "It's like going from years to just a few weeks to extract lithium. "
