Vaginitis, which is just a fancy word for inflammation or irritation of the vagina, is a painfully common issue for women. It's crucial to have reliable diagnosis method. Doctors usually check samples of vaginal discharge using methods like wet mounts and gram staining. But there's a new kid on the block—fluorescent staining. It makes different cells and germs glow in unique colours when lit up, making them easier to spot.
We created a huge dataset to test this out. It's got over 343, 000 high-quality labels, spread across eight different categories. This dataset was used to train a lightweight deep-learning network called LRNet. It's like a smart detective that can spot trouble in vaginal health. LRNet uses special modules called Ghost modules for extracting features, and it has a unique feature pyramid network with deformable convolution in the neck. It also has a single detection head for making sense of all the data. They tested it, and it looks like this network is better than the usual ones. It can reduce the number of model parameters by up to 91. 4% and floating-point operations by 74%. This makes it super efficient. Think about it—this kind of tech could make a big difference. Precise diagnosis means quicker treatment and less discomfort for women. It's all about making healthcare better, right? People might worry about the costs of new technology, but if it means less guesswork and more accurate diagnosis, it could be worth it in the long run. Also, this could be a game changer for places where healthcare is limited.
