Urgent Call for Safe Passage Through Hormuz Strait
Strait of Hormuz, Persian GulfThu Jun 25 2026
A Chinese diplomat urged that ships should soon be able to travel freely through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway crucial for worldwide trade. The statement was made by Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a phone call with Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Wang said China is ready to help all sides move talks forward without outside pressure.
The U. S. and Iran have reached a temporary agreement that is starting to release oil trapped in the Gulf, easing some tension. Wang highlighted three main goals for the near future: first, to secure a lasting ceasefire; second, to open the Strait again for regular shipping; and third, to create a new security framework for Middle Eastern countries.
Earlier in the day, three large tankers that had been stuck in the Strait were reported to be leaving. They carried about five million barrels of crude oil, with two heading toward Asia. This movement shows the potential for faster shipping once conflicts subside.
The Chinese message stresses that stable oil flows are essential for global supply chains and industrial stability. By supporting negotiations, China hopes to see a quicker return to normal trade routes.
