U.S.-Ukraine Tensions Rise as Russia Bombs Kyiv

The United States leader has ramped up criticism of the Ukrainian president while Russia keeps bombing Ukrainian cities. The dispute comes as Washington has limited the technology that Kyiv relies on to fight back. The Ukrainian leader says he will meet American officials this week to discuss the situation.

In recent days, Russian drones and missiles have hit Kyiv without warning. Homes, a shopping center and a school have been damaged. Residents describe the sound of explosions and the sight of shattered windows. The attacks are part of a larger effort to make the capital uninhabitable.

A senior U.S. diplomat said the country has never paused intelligence sharing, calling the Ukrainian claims confusing. The Ukrainian president acknowledged that the flow of intelligence has been on and off, thanking the United States when it resumes. The American president, however, says Ukraine has given little in return and suggests someone else should negotiate.

The American president hinted he might sit down with the Russian president and the Chinese leader next month to talk about arms control. He added that the discussion would not focus much on Ukraine, noting that Russia has been handling the situation there. Meanwhile, civilians continue to suffer, including a baby killed in Kharkiv, highlighting the heavy human cost of the war.
