Vaccine Hopes, AI Split and SpaceX Favor Set the Science Mood

The science mood is cautious overall, but not one-sided. Biotech brings a clear disagreement. People currently seem to favor FDA approval of a skin cancer vaccine in the later window, while earlier approval windows look doubtful. The later formal vaccine application is also favored. Views on an earlier filing remain divided, though they lean slightly toward yes. The contrast may show that people treat regulatory paperwork and full approval as very different achievements.

Artificial intelligence looks even more fractured. General expectations lean bullish on AI solving more Millennium Prize Problems, but that support does not hold across closely related wording. Some versions look bearish, and the strongest resistance is aimed at the idea of additional problems being solved. People seem to be weighing several ideas at once. AI may be seen as capable of major progress, yet a public claim that a famous problem has been solved is still doubted. That gap invites closer scrutiny of what counts as a solution.

More alarming or extraordinary claims draw colder reactions. The idea that the US will formally confirm alien existence is viewed as a clear no across the near-term windows. Expectations also lean strongly against a plague pandemic and against pneumonic plague spreading beyond Russia. These views do not prove that such events are impossible. They do show that the public currently needs a much stronger basis before accepting dramatic scientific or public-health claims.

Commercial expectations are more decisive. SpaceX appears favored to achieve the largest valuation in a major public offering. OpenAI and ByteDance draw strongly bearish reactions for that same distinction. The contrast does not settle broader views of those businesses. It shows that public confidence can be selective, with a commercial goal treated differently from grand claims about aliens, disease, or mathematical breakthroughs. For this goal, SpaceX has the clearest backing, while the alternatives are not favored.
