VCFC and LAFC 2 Clash in MLS Next Pro Western Final
Ventura County FC is gearing up for a huge showdown this Friday. They will face LAFC 2 in the MLS Next Pro Western Conference final. The winner moves on to the championship game. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. at Dignity Health Sports Park. Best part? Admission is totally free.
This rivalry isn't just about the pros. It runs deep through the youth and academy levels too. Both teams know each other well, which makes things even more intense. VCFC defender Riley Delgado said the energy will be off the charts. He added that their mindset is simple: win or go home.
The teams have already played three times this season. LAFC 2 took the first game 3-2 back in May. VCFC bounced back with a 2-0 shutout in July. Their last meeting in September ended in a 1-1 draw. Heading into the final, VCFC finished third in the West with 53 points. LAFC 2 came in sixth with 45 points.
VCFC coach Matt Taylor knows his young squad well. Eight of his starting eleven came through the Galaxy Academy. He said building team chemistry has been key. Taylor also praised how the group adapted when players left and new ones joined during the summer.
On the other side, LAFC 2 relies on Tommy Mihalić. He leads the team with nine goals this season. Taylor admitted LAFC 2 is tough and aggressive. But he believes his team can handle the pressure. The coach said staying focused and playing smart will decide who advances.
