Venezuelan Gang's US Spread: A New Worry
Texas, USAFri Oct 18 2024
Texas Republicans want answers from the Biden administration about the release of Venezuelan migrants. They're concerned about a notorious gang, Tren de Aragua (TdA), which is now causing trouble in several US states. The lawmakers sent a letter asking for details about these migrants and how the government is dealing with the gang's presence.
The Biden administration has let in over 117,000 Venezuelan migrants since October 2022. Another 750,000 have entered through the southern border. Some of these migrants include TdA members who slipped through checks because Venezuela doesn't share info about its citizens.
Now, TdA is making headlines for crimes in Texas and other states. In San Antonio, cops busted a gang-run apartment complex. In El Paso, the gang took over a hotel, leading to many police calls. Even in Dallas, a resident was attacked by TdA members. The gang's reach is wide, with crime reports coming from places like New York, Arizona, and California.
The lawmakers think the rise in crime is due to the administration's policies. They want a "full accounting" of these migrants and how the government is responding to the gang threat.
