As the mercury drops, the Bedford-Stuyvesant goldfish pond, a TikTok-famous attraction, faces an uncertain future. Created by Hajj Malik Lovick, the pond has become a beloved community spot, but its survival depends on a plexiglass system to keep the fish swimming through the colder months. Lovick has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the project, which has garnered over $3,000 of its $5,000 goal. The pond's visitors have been getting creative with ideas to keep the fish safe during winter. Some suggest covering it like a fish tank, while others propose bringing the fish inside until the weather warms up again. However, veterinarian Ben Rosenbloom remains skeptical, calling the pet project "animal abuse" and warning that the fish will suffer from temperature changes, chemical runoff, and hungry rats. Despite the challenges, the community remains devoted to the pond. Pace University students Will Phalon and Erika Cao, who visited the pond for the first time, expressed their desire to see it remain a permanent fixture on the Bed-Stuy block. "This needs to stay here forever," Phalon said. "I love how it's so community-oriented. . . This is such a part of this street now. "
