Many people believe that Donald Trump was a good president. But is that true? Let's take a closer look at his record. First, the economy. Trump left the U. S. with a huge deficit, the largest in history. He cut taxes and spent a lot, leaving a debt that our kids and grandkids will have to pay off. The national debt jumped by almost $7. 8 trillion during his four years in office. Second, jobs. Trump ended his term with 3 million fewer jobs than when he started. Sure, the pandemic played a role, but since then, Biden has added nearly 16 million jobs. Third, democracy. Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election and even incited a mob to attack the Capitol. He still claims he won and calls the rioters "patriots. " Fourth, foreign policy. Trump cozied up to dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. He also pulled out of important agreements like the Paris Climate Accord and threatened to leave NATO. This weakened the United States' standing in the world.
Fifth, abortion rights. Trump appointed judges who helped overturn Roe v. Wade, making abortions illegal in many states. Some women couldn't get proper medical care and reportedly died. Sixth, hate crimes. These increased by 28% during Trump's term, with hate-motivated murders reaching their highest in 28 years. Trump's divisive rhetoric, like calling Mexican immigrants "rapists," didn't help. Seventh, the border wall. Trump promised to build a border fence and make Mexico pay for it. That never happened. Most of the wall that exists was already there or repaired during his time in office. Lastly, COVID-19. Trump downplayed masks and even suggested people inject disinfectant. Many COVID deaths could have been prevented if he had pushed for vaccinations. So, was Trump a great president? Not really. His record shows he was a disaster in many areas.
