Watch Executives Chat About Life-Saving Features
Cupertino, USAMon Oct 07 2024
In a recent talk with David Phelan from The Independent, Apple bigwigs Jeff Williams, Dr. Sumbul Desai, and Jay Blahnik discussed the health benefits of the Apple Watch. Williams, the head of the Apple Watch team, explained how the idea to expand health features came from users who credited the watch with saving their lives. Inspired by these stories and his own experience with sleep apnea, Williams and his team added new sensors and features like irregular heart rhythm alerts and sleep apnea detection.
Dr. Desai, a medical doctor at Apple, hinted that the new Vitals app, which tracks health metrics during sleep, could eventually work during the day too. She mentioned that the team is always exploring new possibilities. Blahnik, the fitness tech guru at Apple, reminded everyone how far we've come in tracking our activities. He pointed out that before smartwatches, people had to use their cars to measure running distances.
