Water‑Career Scholarship Opens for Students Near Portland

The Portland Water District is inviting students from its service area to apply for the Joseph A. DiPietro Scholarship before March 31. This award supports those aiming to work in fields that help keep water clean and safe. Eligible majors include wastewater treatment, HVAC, electrical work, automation, plumbing, fire science, environmental studies, engineering and public administration.The scholarship was created in 2003 to honor a former trustee who helped shape the district. Anyone studying a relevant career can apply or learn more by visiting pwd. org. In other local news, the Gorham Republican group will meet on Sunday from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. at the Moody’s Collision Center, located on Narragansett Street. A historical note: back in 1976, a construction training seminar took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Two workers from Maine visited the Caterpillar testing site there and also toured Las Vegas.
