Weather Data from Portugal's Biggest Reservoir: A Six-Year Look
Alqueva Reservoir, PortugalSun Nov 10 2024
Diving into six years of weather data from Portugal's largest reservoir, Alqueva. Two weather stations were installed here, one floating on the water and the other on the shore. From 2018 to 2023, these stations collected valuable information. Every hour, they recorded rainfall, water and soil temperatures, wind details, humidity, and sunlight intensity. Additionally, they tracked the daily highs and lows of air temperature and humidity, along with the exact times these peaks occurred.
This dataset is a treasure trove for scientists and researchers. It can help understand local weather patterns, monitor environmental changes, and even improve the accuracy of weather simulations. Plus, it can shed light on water quality changes and algae blooms in large reservoirs. The data also includes failure rates for each parameter, giving users the flexibility to set their own standards for data reliability.

questions
If the weather station on the shore is 1 km away in a straight line, does it ever get lonely out there?
Is there a hidden agenda behind monitoring the wind intensity and direction so rigorously?
How do the daily maximum and minimum values of air temperature and relative humidity vary over the six years, and what factors could be contributing to these variations?
