Weather Holds Georgia‑Texas College Baseball Clash
Omaha, Neb., USASun Jun 14 2026
The Georgia baseball team was ready to face Texas in the College World Series, but a storm put the game on hold.
A weather delay began before the scheduled start at 8 p. m. , pushing the kickoff to 8:45 p. m.
At 7:20 p. m. , officials announced the delay, and a tarp was laid over the field about 90 minutes earlier to keep the surface dry.
While rain fell, both teams stayed in their locker rooms.
Fans started moving to their seats around 7:05 p. m. , and the pitchers warmed up in the bullpens at about 7:40 p. m.
The tarp was removed by 7:47 p. m. , but the game still faced a weather pause.
Earlier that day, heavy storms had cleared by mid‑afternoon, allowing the first game of the day to finish normally.
That match saw Oklahoma defeat Alabama 9-0 without interruption.
Georgia has experience with weather delays this postseason.
They paused for an hour during a 8-7 win over Florida in the SEC Tournament on May 23.
Their opening game of the Athens Regional against Long Island was also suspended on May 29 and resumed at 9 a. m. the next day, ending in an 18-2 victory.
The night’s delay was Georgia’s first College World Series game since 2008, adding extra pressure to perform after the wait.
