Weather Spooks: What to Expect on Halloween
USAThu Oct 31 2024
Get ready for a mix of weather surprises this Halloween! The southern states like Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia are set to sizzle with temperatures soaring up to the mid-80s to 90s Fahrenheit. That's right, it might feel more like summer than fall! Other areas in the region will hover around the late 70s and early 80s. The National Weather Service (NWS) says it's going to be hotter than usual—about 20-30 degrees above what we typically see. Some places might even set new records for the hottest Halloween ever!
Now, let's talk about the northern states. They'll be on the chillier side with temperatures ranging from the upper 30s to low 50s. Some parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, and north Texas might even see freezing temperatures in the morning. A cold front is responsible for this cool-down and could also bring some severe thunderstorms to the Midwest and Mississippi River Valley.
Out on the West Coast, it's a bit of both—cooler in the Pacific Northwest and warmer down in Southern California. Speaking of rain, it's expected to pour in a diagonal band stretching from the northeast to the south. Thunderstorms could hit areas from southern Indiana all the way down to Louisiana, with some spots getting up to 1. 25 inches of rain. The Pacific Northwest, especially parts of Oregon and Washington, might even see some snow on their mountains.
The NWS has some advice: before you head out for trick-or-treating, check your local weather forecast. They want to make sure your costumes stay dry and you stay safe indoors if there's thunder or lightning. Sounds like a plan!
