The FDA has made a big change. They want to take off the suicide warning from popular weight loss drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound. This news comes after they looked at lots of data and found no link between these drugs and suicidal thoughts.
These drugs, known as GLP-1, were first made to help people with type 2 diabetes. They work by making people feel full, so they eat less and lose weight. The FDA checked data from almost 108, 000 patients. Over 60, 000 took GLP-1 drugs, and the rest got a placebo. The results? No higher risk of suicidal thoughts or other mental health issues like anxiety or depression.
This is not the first time the FDA has looked into this. Back in 2024, they said the data was not enough to rule out a small risk. But now, with more information, they are sure there is no connection.
This is good news for people using these drugs. It means they can feel more confident about their safety. But it's always important to talk to a doctor about any concerns.
