When Fear Paralyzes Progress: How to Fight Back
USA, JuneauMon Oct 27 2025
In the animal kingdom, there's a thing called tonic immobility. It's when creatures freeze up when they see a predator. It's like their brain says, "Don't move, maybe it won't notice you. " But humans aren't animals, right? We should know better. Yet, when faced with chaos and confusion, many people just freeze. They stay quiet, hoping the threat will go away. Sounds familiar?
The current administration is like a whirlwind. It's throwing out policies, attacking the media, and causing so much chaos that it's hard to focus on any one issue. It's like trying to drink from a firehose. The more they do, the harder it is to fight back. But why aren't more people resisting?
Some are. But it's messy. It's not as organized as people might want. But remember, the founders of this country didn't start with a perfect plan either. They had a rallying cry, "No Kings, " and it took time. A lot of time. And sacrifice. So, it's okay if the resistance isn't perfect right now. What's important is that people are standing up.
Take the Pentagon press corps, for example. They refused to let the Defense Secretary limit what they could report. Most of them walked out, leaving their passes behind. That's courage. Then there are the federal judges in Los Angeles, Portland, and Chicago. They said no to using the military for law enforcement in their cities. They saw no reason for it. Even a Trump appointee agreed, saying the president's reasons were "untethered to the facts. "
And let's not forget the governors of several states. They're standing up for their rights and the rights of their citizens. They're giving new life to the Tenth Amendment. Then there are the universities. When offered federal funding with strings attached, some of them said no. They refused to freeze tuition, limit foreign students, or stay neutral on important issues.
These are the people fighting back. They're not perfect. But they're doing something. And that's what matters. So, don't freeze up. Don't stay quiet. Stand up. Fight back. You're not alone.
