When Politics Walk into the Pews

Churches have always been about bringing people together. But lately, something has changed. Politics have started to sneak into sermons and services. This shift is causing problems. It's making people feel uncomfortable. Some even leave their churches because of it.
The idea that one political view is the "true" Christian way is troubling. Jesus never said his followers should control others. He said they should serve others. When faith becomes a tool for political campaigns, it weakens both the message of the Gospel and the idea of democracy.
Friends have shared stories of leaving churches they loved. They felt uneasy when sermons turned into political speeches. Seeing flags replace crosses on the altar was a big deal. This isn't the kind of Christianity that built hospitals and food pantries. It's not the open-hearted, compassionate faith that helped communities grow.
Churches should be safe spaces. They should be places where people of all political beliefs can pray together. If ideology takes over, that safety is at risk. Humility and love for neighbors should come first. Not political agendas.
It's time for churches to remember their purpose. They should heal divisions, not deepen them. They should serve everyone, not just those who vote a certain way. Faith should guide people's conscience, not dictate their politics. When politics take over the pulpit, everyone loses. Both faith and community suffer.
