This jump is partly due to Covid-related spending and an aging population. The government sector, meanwhile, created about 440, 000 jobs in 2024, down from 709, 000 in 2023. Elise Gould, an economist at the Economic Policy Institute, explained that the healthcare workforce includes a significant number of immigrants, who make up almost 18% of the sector.If Trump's administration pursues mass deportations, it could lead to worker shortages, driving up wages and causing economic problems.
