White House Talks About College Sports Future

The President will host a meeting on March 6 to discuss college athletics. A mix of coaches, players, and business leaders will join the conversation. The event is called the College Sports Roundtable. President Trump will lead the discussion. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and New York Yankees president Randy Levine will act as vice‑chairs. Invitations go to well known names. These include Tiger Woods, former coaches Nick Saban, Mack Brown and Urban Meyer, and former Secretary of State Condi Rice. Sports executives such as Jonathan Kraft, NBA commissioner Adam Silver, and Fox Sports President Eric Shanks are also listed. Athletic directors from major universities will attend.Notable players like Tim Tebow and Charlie Ward are expected to be there as well. No current head coaches are on the invitation list. It is unclear whether all invitees will show up for the meeting. Some participants doubt how much progress can be made in one afternoon. One attendee said the plans are still very early and no detailed proposals have been shared. The billionaire from Texas Tech, Cody Campbell, will also be present. He has spent the past year promoting a “Saving College Sports” campaign. College sports leaders have met with lawmakers for years to push rules on name, image and likeness deals. Despite presidential support, no legislation has moved to a vote yet.
