Who Came Out on Top in the VP Debate?

Boston, USASun Oct 06 2024
The vice presidential debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz sparked a lot of discussion. Some people thought Walz did well, but others had their doubts. One thing is clear: both candidates could use some improvement. When it comes to admitting mistakes, like being in China during the Tiananmen Square protests, honesty is key. Walz tried his best, saying he was a "knucklehead," but it didn't always come across smoothly. Some people compared him to Jack Lemmon from "The China Syndrome. " Vance might have looked better on camera, but Walz had more substance in what he said. Neither of them really changed many minds, though. It's like they were just trying to clear a low bar. The real question is, who are we voting for? Trump or not Trump? That's what really matters here. Both candidates have their flaws, but maybe this debate shows that we can do better in choosing our leaders.

questions

If Walz had indeed shown up in a Kid Rock T-shirt, how might that have changed the writers' evaluation of his debate performance?
Can form and substance be evaluated independently in a debate, and which is more important for voters?
Why does admitting a misstatement seem like such a foreign concept to some candidates?
