Why Are Oklahoma's Education Meetings Hard to Get Into?

Fri Oct 04 2024
Trying to attend an important meeting, but you have to wait in a tiny, uncomfortable room for hours. That's what some journalists in Oklahoma are experiencing when they try to cover public education meetings. The problem is that the main meeting room is often full, leaving people like KFOR waiting in line or even giving up. This isn't just about giving special treatment to the media; it's about making sure everyone can participate in democracy. Things got so bad that KFOR had to take the state education officials to court. They won, but the damage is already done. People are still waiting in line for hours, and some have even stopped trying to get into the meetings. It's like they're being kept out on purpose, which isn't fair. The real issue here is that these meetings should be open to everyone. After all, the government is supposed to work for us, right? So why make it so hard for people to participate? Someone needs to step up and fix this problem. We need a leader who can find a way to make sure everyone can attend public meetings.
