You've probably heard about how tough it is to be a teenager. But these days, it's even harder. A big reason? The digital world. Social media, constant messages, and endless expectations are taking a toll on teens' mental health. A new study found that more than a quarter of American teens are burnt out. That's a lot! It's not just about school and friends anymore. Teens feel they must achieve a lot and have a perfect plan for the future. Social media makes it worse. About 75% of teens say it makes them worry about how they look and what others think.
Our society loves being busy, but we need to remember that being productive isn't everything. Teens should have time for self-care, like getting outside, being creative, and relaxing. But many teens just don't have the time or feel the pressure to always be doing something. New York is trying to help with laws like the SAFE for Kids Act. They want digital platforms to help teens, not hurt them. Teens want help too. They want parents, teachers, and leaders to work together to make a healthier online and offline world. We all need to do our part. Schools need thoughtful smartphone rules and more mental health help. Communities need spaces where teens can be themselves without feeling constant pressure. On World Mental Health Day, we need to remember that our future depends on helping teens now.
