Why Churches Must Speak Up About Abuse
USAMon Oct 20 2025
Abuse doesn't skip the church. It happens inside, too. Many Christian women face violence at home. But when they ask for help, they often hear things like, \"Pray more\" or \"Be more submissive. \" This makes things worse. These women need safety, support, and someone to believe them.
The church should be a safe place. But sometimes, it's not. Many pastors don't talk about abuse. This silence makes women feel alone and ashamed. They need the church to speak up. They need to know abuse is wrong. And they need help to escape it.
Abuse is about control. It's not about stress or bad communication. Couples counseling can even make things worse. The church should help women leave safely. They should also connect them with professional help.
The church must treat spiritual abuse as seriously as physical abuse. Using Scripture to control or silence someone is wrong. The church should preach freedom, not control. They should support women, not pressure them to stay.
Recovery takes time. Women need patience, encouragement, and real help. The church should walk with them. They should listen, pray, and connect them with professionals. Each woman's healing journey is unique. The church should respect that.
The gospel is about love and protection. It's not about sending women back into danger. The church must speak up. They should preach about abuse, share resources, and listen to survivors. Silence is not an option. Protection is a must.
