In South Korea, there is a big need for body donors to help with medical studies and training. But not many people are willing to do this. A recent study wanted to find out why. The study asked over 200 adults in South Korea about their thoughts on body donation. Less than half of them said they would be willing to donate their bodies after death. The main reason people gave for wanting to donate was to help medical science move forward. Interestingly, people who did not have a religious affiliation were less likely to want to donate compared to Protestants. Also, people with lower incomes and less education were more willing to donate. But things like age, job, and health did not seem to make much difference.
The study also found that if someone was willing to donate their own body, they were also likely to support a family member doing the same. But concerns about family sadness or the body's condition did not play a big role. Most people in the study had not seen much information about body donation. And almost 70% thought there should be more promotion about it. This shows that people's decisions are influenced by their beliefs, family views, and how much they know about the topic. To get more body donors, it might help to focus on education and outreach programs. These should address the cultural and psychological factors that affect people's willingness to donate.
