Why Do Some Stars Hate the Oscars?

The Oscars, the biggest night in Hollywood, isn't loved by everyone. Some big names have spoken out against the awards and the fuss that comes with them. " Matt Damon, who won an Oscar for "Good Will Hunting, " doesn't like the campaigning that comes with awards season. He thinks it's odd and backwards. Seth Rogen, who has never been nominated, wonders why movie people care so much about the awards. Scarlett Johansson, who has been nominated twice, was surprised that "Avengers: Endgame" wasn't nominated for Best Picture. She thinks the movie was impossible and shouldn't have worked, but it did. Ethan Hawke, who has five Oscar nominations, once called the Oscars process "asinine. " He thinks it's destructive to chase after fake carrots and dubious accolades. But he later changed his tune, saying the Oscars do a good job in representing much of the great work in a given year.Oscar Isaac, who has never been nominated, called the new Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film category "pretty stupid. " He doesn't understand the criteria for the award. Joaquin Phoenix, who has been nominated four times and won once, said the Oscars are "bulls–t" and a "carrot. " Anthony Hopkins, who has won two Oscars, called the awards season "nauseating to watch" and "disgusting to behold. " He thinks it's sick-making to see people groveling around and kissing the backsides of famous producers. Eddie Murphy, who has never been nominated, was so disappointed with the Academy Awards for "not recognizing black people in motion pictures" that he almost refused to present the Oscar for Best Picture in 1988.
