Why Europe Needs Trump for Peace
EuropeFri Mar 07 2025
Trump has a clear goal: to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. He wants to bring both sides to the table for serious talks. But European leaders are not helping. They claim Trump is abandoning NATO and Ukraine, which is not true. Instead, Trump wants a lasting peace deal. He wants Europe to step up and invest more in their own defense. This is not isolationism; it is realism. Trump's plan includes economic incentives, like giving U. S. companies access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals. This shows he cares about both security and economic leverage. Trump's approach is different from the failed Normandy Format and Minsk agreements. He knows that peace must come first before any security guarantees. European leaders, like Keir Starmer and Giorgia Meloni, want a European-led peacekeeping force. But this won't work without the U. S. Europe does not have the military power to stand up to Russia alone. European leaders have created a false sense of security for Zelensky. They give him verbal reassurances, but Europe cannot provide the military backing he needs. European leaders are also dealing with their own political problems. They cannot agree on a unified military force. Poland's President Andrzej Duda understands the stakes. He has strengthened Poland's military and deepened ties with the U. S. Duda knows that real deterrence requires more than just words. He has increased Poland's defense spending to almost 5 percent of GDP. This is a lot higher than other European countries. Duda has also hosted American troops and advocated for NATO's reinforcement. He has been a strong supporter of Ukraine since the start of Russia's aggression.
Western leaders need to decide if they are serious about ending the war or if they just want to keep talking. The truth is, no single European country or the EU as a whole can replace the U. S. as the leader of the free world. Pushing America out of Europe is a bad idea. It would lead to another disaster. European leaders need to recognize that they need Trump, not the other way around. They must find a way to work with him and trust in his strategy. Trump has the political capital, strategic vision, and negotiating power to bring about a settlement. He is the only one who can deliver lasting peace. Europe cannot afford another decade of mistakes. The world needs peace—now. And only Trump can deliver it.
