People often switch jobs for better health insurance, but many are unhappy with what they get. A recent survey of 2, 000 Americans showed that over half (53%) consider health insurance the most important factor when looking for a new job. However, 60% of those with employer-provided health insurance feel it doesn't meet their needs.
This is a big deal because half of the people surveyed (51%) have a health condition or concern. So, why do people feel stuck with health insurance that doesn't work for them? The survey suggests that many (44%) want an alternative called ICHRA. This is where employers give employees money to choose their own health plans. It's more popular than traditional employer health insurance (33%).
Traditional health insurance might be holding people back. Many workers (41%) feel trapped in their jobs because of benefits. When thinking about their next career move, most (52%) focus on practical reasons, like better health benefits, rather than passion for the job. Many (43%) have even put off starting their own business or working for themselves because of health insurance worries. But, if they had health insurance that suited their needs, more than half (57%) would consider a career change.
The survey highlights that people want more choices and better solutions for their health needs. Traditional health insurance might not be the best fit for everyone. With ICHRA, employers can set budgets without worrying about compliance or premium hikes. Employees can then choose a plan that fits their needs, with all costs covered. This could help attract top talent and give workers more freedom to pursue their career goals.
