Why Is Gov. Tim Walz's China Connection Still a Mystery?

Minnesota, USATue Nov 05 2024
Rep. James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, recently revealed that there are many unanswered questions about Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's frequent visits to China. Comer brought this up just days before the election, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) whistleblower, Walz, who was a vice presidential candidate, has been under surveillance for years due to his numerous trips to China. Comer mentioned that Walz's frequent visits to China raise eyebrows, especially because he doesn't have the financial means to make such trips often. Walz's admiration for China's business model and his comments about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) taking people out of poverty have also sparked concern. Comer believes that every American should be worried about an official who could potentially be a heartbeat away from the presidency having such close ties with China. He pointed out that the oversight committee and the DHS have checked all the boxes on their list for a U. S. official or their family member being influenced by the CCP. Comer noted that Walz has claimed to have visited China at least 30 times and expressed frustration with the media's lack of investigation into these connections. He argued that the House Oversight Committee needs to delve deeper into why the DHS was concerned about Walz. This could be related to a new report about his alleged romantic interest from China or his favorable comments about the CCP. The whistleblower has informed the committee about classified and unclassified documents detailing the DHS's concerns, but Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has refused to hand these over. Comer believes that the only way to hold Mayorkas accountable is for voters to elect former President Donald Trump, who would then install people to keep officials in check. During the vice presidential debate last month, Walz admitted to mischaracterizing his past visits to China. He initially claimed to have been in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989, even though records show he didn't travel to Asia until after the protests. Walz acknowledged his mistake, saying he can be a "knucklehead sometimes" and had "misspoke" about the matter.
