Colorectal cancer is a major health issue in Brazil. It's linked to unhealthy habits and unequal access to healthcare. A recent study looked at factors affecting colorectal cancer deaths in Brazil. They used data from 2020, focusing on Brazil's federal units. They considered things like overweight rates, diet, inactivity, smoking, alcohol, income, education, and access to cancer treatment.
In 2020, over 21, 000 people died from colorectal cancer, with women making up half of the deaths. The study found that being overweight had the strongest link to colorectal cancer deaths. For men, the risk increased by 3%, and for women, it went up by 5%. The number of oncologists also mattered, increasing the risk by 2% for both men and women.
Interestingly, factors like diet, income, and education didn't show a clear connection to colorectal cancer deaths. This means that fighting overweight and improving access to cancer specialists should be the top priorities for public health policies in Brazil.
