Chinese smartphone makers have been using silicon-carbon batteries to boost their devices' battery life. These batteries can hold up to 6, 000mAh or more, making their phones last longer than those from Samsung and Apple. Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra and the upcoming S25 Ultra have the highest battery capacity at 5, 000mAh. Rumors suggest that both Samsung and Apple are looking into silicon-carbon batteries to keep up with the competition.
Samsung is reportedly working on these new batteries, but it's not clear when they'll be ready. Xiaomi's Redmi Turbo 4 already uses silicon-carbon batteries with a capacity of 6, 550mAh. However, high-end phones like the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra have less space for bigger batteries. This makes it challenging for engineers to fit large batteries without sacrificing features.
Apple is known for adopting new technologies later than others. So, it might take them some time before they switch to silicon-carbon batteries. Both companies are trying to make their phones last longer by improving software and using power-efficient components. But they might need to focus on bigger batteries to make a real difference.
