Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, USAFri Oct 25 2024
The Los Angeles Dodgers have made it clear that Shohei Ohtani, the two-way superstar, will not pitch in the World Series against the New York Yankees. Both the team's manager, Dave Roberts, and the president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, announced this decision on Thursday. Ohtani will focus solely on hitting during the Fall Classic.
Roberts emphasized that there's "no possibility" of Ohtani taking the mound. This decision comes a year after Ohtani underwent elbow surgery, keeping him off the mound for the entire season. Despite not pitching, Ohtani is still the biggest star of the series due to his incredible season with the Dodgers.
Ohtani's historic first season includes a . 310 batting average, . 646 slugging percentage, 54 home runs, and 59 stolen bases. He became the first player ever to join the 50-50 club. Although his postseason performance hasn't been as impressive, he still maintains a . 934 OPS with three home runs.
Ohtani expressed his excitement about participating in his first World Series. "I have watched the World Series every year and felt disappointed not taking part, " he said. "This year, I can participate and I'm really looking forward to it. "
