Why young adults are choosing spiritual classes in big numbers

Every year, more than a million young people worldwide sign up for faith-based classes run by the Church. These classes, called Seminaries and Institutes, have hit a record enrollment just as the program turns 100 years old. The leader of the Church, President Oaks, recently sent videos urging 14-to-18-year-olds to show up regularly. He told them these classes aren’t just lectures—they’re chances to feel closer to Jesus, find answers to daily struggles, and prepare for life steps like college, service missions, and family life. He also asked them to bring their friends along so everyone can grow together. President Oaks promises that sitting in these classes week after week brings calm and clarity in confusing times. The program’s growth isn’t slowing down; enrollment jumped by 200, 000 students lately, and about 75, 000 of those students come from backgrounds outside the faith. That shows something powerful—these classes aren’t just for one group. They’re attracting curious minds from all over.Not everyone explains the impact the same way, but three students gave quick glimpses into how these classes changed their view of Jesus. One woman finally felt a personal connection to the Savior after years of hearing about him in church. Another teen said the daily routine of seminary gave him a steady place to grow spiritually. A third student called her institute class a safe harbor where she made lasting friends and explored the idea of grace in her own time. What’s interesting isn’t just the numbers. It’s that the promise of friendship, answers, and inner peace resonates across cultures and beliefs. While some might wonder if these classes fit into busy schedules, the invitation stands open—and the doors seem to keep getting wider.
