Wind, Snow and Sudden Chill Hit Northeast Ohio
Northeast Ohio, Cleveland, USAMon Mar 16 2026
Early Monday a cold front pushed through the region, turning a mild start into a windy and wet day. Rain fell while gusts of 20 to 30 mph hit the area, with spikes up to 55 mph that could toss loose objects and knock down branches. A wind advisory is in place until 8 p. m. , so drivers with trucks or SUVs should be careful.
Later that afternoon the wind shifts to the southwest, still strong but easing a bit. By night, colder air from over Lake Erie brings lake‑effect snow that could pile up quickly in the eastern parts of the state. In some spots, snowfall may reach an inch per hour, and total accumulation could be 5 to 9 inches in the snowbelt.
Temperatures will drop sharply overnight, with lows around 20 degrees. Combined with the wind, wind chills may feel as cold as single digits. Tuesday’s daytime highs will stay in the 20s, so it feels more like mid‑winter than March.
Even the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade will be chilly, with wind chills in the teens and possible snow. The bad weather is expected to fade by Tuesday night when a high‑pressure system moves in.
After the storm, temperatures should rise into the low 40s by Wednesday and into the low 50s later in the week. The rest of the weekend should see mild weather, with highs reaching the mid‑50s across Northeast Ohio.
