Windy Day Ahead: Be Ready for Gusts and Fire Risks
Colorado USATue Mar 18 2025
Get ready for a windy Tuesday. The strongest winds will hit areas along and south of the Arkansas River Valley. These winds could reach speeds of 60 to 70+ mph. Because of this, High Wind Warnings have been issued.
Tonight, expect breezy conditions with gusts around 20 to 25 mph. The temperature will drop to the 30s, and the sky will be cloudy. The weather will be chilly. The temperature will be in the 30s and 40s. The clouds will start to clear up later in the day.
Tomorrow, a cold front will bring strong north winds to the region. These winds will pick up in the mid-morning and continue through the afternoon. In the Pikes Peak area, gusts could reach 40 to 50 mph. In the southeast plains and extreme southern Colorado, winds could be strong enough to cause damage, with speeds of 60 to 70+ mph. The weather will be cold. The temperature will be in the 40s and low 50s.
There is a chance of a brief burst of rain or snow as the front moves in. After 4 PM, flurries could develop and linger into early Tuesday morning. There might be a light accumulation of snow.
Be prepared for high fire danger. Red Flag Warnings are in place for much of the region. The winds and dry conditions make it easy for fires to start and spread quickly. Be cautious with any outdoor activities that could cause a spark.
