USAWed Nov 20 2024
A big winter storm is hitting nine states across the U. S. , with up to 3 feet of snow predicted in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings and advisories, expecting poor driving conditions and possible power outages.
In North Dakota, nearly the entire state is under advisories, with wind gusts up to 50 mph expected until Wednesday evening. Some counties may see up to 8 inches of snow. The NWS warns that travel will be very difficult due to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
South Dakota is also affected, with some counties expecting up to 7 inches of snow. In northern California, Trinity County is under a warning for strong winds and heavy snowfall that could cause damage.
Oregon's Cascades and some southern counties could see up to 3 feet of snow, with winds reaching 75 mph. The NWS advises delaying travel if possible and driving with caution.
Washington's western and central counties are under warnings, with the Eastern Cascades expecting up to 16 inches of snow by Wednesday morning. Power outages are possible. In Montana, advisories are active in the west, with up to 10 inches of snow expected at higher elevations.
Minnesota's northwest is forecasting heavy snow and high winds, with up to 5 inches possible in the Red River Valley. Blizzard conditions are predicted in parts of Alaska, with total snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches and strong winds.
Idaho has a winter storm warning in effect, with up to 2 feet of snow possible at high elevations. High winds could lead to blowing and drifting snow. Advisories cover central regions up to the Canadian border, with up to 12 inches expected in mountainous areas.
