A winter storm is set to hit southeastern Minnesota on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, causing a lot of trouble for schools in the area. The National Weather Service has warned everyone to be careful, as the weather will bring rain, freezing rain, and some snow. This means roads will be slippery, and driving will be dangerous. Because of this weather, many schools have decided to let students out early. This is to keep everyone safe and avoid any accidents. The storm is not as bad as in other places, but it's still enough to cause problems. In Cannon Falls, schools will close at 1:15 PM. Fillmore Central and Goodhue schools will also let students go early, at 1:30 PM and 1:15 PM respectively. Grand Meadow schools will close at 1:00 PM, and all afternoon activities are canceled. Hayfield and Houston schools will also dismiss early, at 1:30 PM. Other schools like Kingsland, Lake City, and Lake Mills will also close early. Some schools, like Lewiston-Altura and Lyle, will close even earlier, at 2:00 PM and 1:10 PM respectively. Riceville and Rushford-Peterson schools will dismiss at 1:15 PM and 2:00 PM. Sacred Heart School in Adams will close two hours early, at 1:00 PM. Southern Minnesota Education Consortium and Southland schools will also dismiss at 1:00 PM. St. Johns Lutheran School in Wykoff and Triton Public Schools will also let students go early. This weather is a big deal because it affects not just schools but also after-school activities. Many schools have canceled these activities to keep kids safe. It's important for everyone to be careful and follow the weather advisories.
