Winter Wonderland: D-FW Braces for More Snow and Sleet
Dallas-Fort Worth area, USASat Jan 11 2025
Winter is painting a white canvas over the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with more than four inches of snow, sleet, and rain already reported in some parts. The National Weather Service expects the chilly conditions to stick around through Thursday evening and overnight into Friday. Hunter Reeves, a meteorologist, explained that radar shows a large area of precipitation still moving over the region, and as the sun sets, the mix of rain, sleet, and snow will transition to mostly snow.
Many cities, schools, and businesses have closed due to the harsh weather. Dallas County has seen between three-quarter inches to 1. 5 inches of winter precipitation. Northern areas like Denton and Collin counties have been hit harder, with places like Anna, Prosper, and Allen recording over three inches. Celina and Van Alstyne in Collin County saw the heaviest amounts, with 6 inches and 4. 7 inches respectively. Denton County also reported about 4 inches of snow and sleet accumulation in areas like Pilot Point and Lake Dallas.
The weather service predicts another 1 to 3 inches of snow possible overnight into Friday. This could make roads slippery, but not much branch damage has been reported yet. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing around 9-10 a. m. , but any water could refreeze overnight, with lows in the low 20s. Saturday morning should see highs in the mid-40s, but improvements in road conditions might be slow if there isn't much direct sunlight.
