Thu Feb 06 2025
Let's dive in to this mess. First of all, it must have been a realshock when 100 million people across 22 states received weather alerts on Thursday. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected to make travel from the midwest to the north-east and mid-Atlantic a nightmare for days. From Nebraska to Massachusetts, people should be prepared for some treacherous commutes, and not just on Thursday.
The Great Lakes have already seen ice from a storm that is moving towards major cities. Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston are all in the storm's path on Thursday. Schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts have already closed as a precaution. New England is expected to get between 2 to 5 inches of snow.
How about this, the storm doesn't just bring snow. The southern side is going to get rain and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service is warning that even a small amount of freezing rain can cause major problems. Picture this, even a thin layer of ice can make walking or driving super dangerous. This means that road and air travel will likely be disrupted. So picture this, power outages could happen because of freezing rain buildup on trees and power lines, and then strong winds will follow. And that's not all, The Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday might also see travel disruptions for fans and players from Philadelphia and Kansas City. The game's outcome could even affect victory parades and celebrations.
