Winter's Last Gasp: A Quick Weather Update for New England
New England, Boston, USAMon Mar 24 2025
The weather in New England is always a bit of a wildcard. It is not over yet. The remnants of last night's chill might bring a few snowflakes or sleet pellets in the early hours. It is not going to be a big deal. The snow will not stick around for long. The only places that might see a light dusting are north of Fitchburg, Nashua, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. For the rest of the region, it will be a cold rain. Temperatures will hover in the upper 30s to low 40s, which is a bit chilly for late March. The normal high for Boston this time of year is 48 degrees, so it is going to feel a bit nippy.
The good news is that tomorrow looks a bit better. The sun will peek out from behind the clouds, and there will be a cool northwest breeze. On Wednesday, a small storm system will move off the Islands. It might bring a few showers, but it won't be a washout like today. The rest of the week looks fairly quiet but cool. Temperatures will dip back to the upper 40s on Thursday and then rise to around 50 on Friday. It is a good time to bundle up and enjoy the outdoors while the weather is still crisp.
While the weather might not be exciting, there was some interesting activity in the skies over the weekend. The aurora borealis was a bit more active, but it didn't quite reach the threshold for vibrant nighttime colors. Some spots in New England did get a little show, though. As solar activity wanes in the coming days, it is unlikely that there will be any significant events. However, we are still in a solar maximum, so it is worth keeping an eye on the skies for more activity in the months to come. It is a good reminder that even when the weather is dull, there is always something interesting happening in the world around us.
