Winter's Light Tap: DC, MD & VA Snowfall Update
Washington DC, USASun Jan 12 2025
Early Saturday morning, the DC region woke up to a fresh layer of snow, thanks to an overnight winter weather system. The total snowfall ranged from 1 to 3 inches, making roads potentially slippery. Some areas, like Garrett and Western Highland counties, expected an additional 2 to 4 inches, with isolated spots seeing up to 6 inches.
Gusty winds, reaching speeds of up to 40 mph, were forecasted to cause blowing snow and poor visibility in the advisory areas. Despite the snowfall, the day was expected to brighten up with partly sunny skies and temperatures remaining in the 30s. The wind was set to pick up from the Northwest at 10-15 mph, gusting up to 30 mph.
A chilly night followed, with temperatures dropping to 24°F (−4°C). Sunday promised more sunshine, but it was going to be another cold and breezy day. Highs were expected to stay in the 30s, with overnight temperatures dipping into the low 20s and teens.
