A crime‑scene tech named Chelsea Gipson stepped back onto the witness stand to share details about evidence gathered at Kouri Richins’ house. The judge had a scheduling clash, so the day’s session was paused for an hour, then extended. Afterward, jurors were excused and Gipson was told she would speak again on Thursday.
Gipson had already testified that she visited the residence eight times, taking photos, scans and other items. She was there on the morning Eric Richins died, a month later, and after Kouri Richins was taken into custody on May 8, 2023.
During her testimony she mentioned prescription bottles, phones, THC edibles and a pair of tweezers found in a woman’s jacket pocket. The role of the tweezers is still unclear, but prosecutors want those items and four phones to be shown to jurors when deliberations begin.
On Wednesday, defense lawyer Kathy Nester asked Gipson about her routine for handling evidence. Questions included why a bedsheet from Eric Richins’ bedroom was taken into evidence and how Gipson accessed the 911 call Kouri Richins made, claiming her husband was not “breaking and cold. ”
Kouri Richins, a Kamas resident and real‑estate agent who also wrote a book on grief, faces charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder and other felonies. The case alleges she killed her husband on March 4, 2022, by giving him a lethal dose of fentanyl and later poisoning his food on February 14, 2022.
