Women Leading Health in Argentina and Nigeria Face Unique Hurdles

Argentina and NigeriaSat Oct 17 2026

A survey gathered views from 62 women who lead health programs in Argentina and Nigeria. They are all aged 18 or older and hold leadership roles. The aim was to learn what stops women from rising to top roles. They answered questions through an online questionnaire.

Many said the biggest obstacles are handling people, growing their skills, and juggling home duties. Some said balancing family duties with night shifts makes career growth tough. Others said lack of mentorship limits their chance to move up.

What helped them move forward? Training programs that focus on practical skills helped many gain confidence. Coaching sessions gave personal guidance that sparked change. When workplaces value every voice, women feel more supported. Institutional backing, like funding for projects, removes roadblocks.

These findings show that women in health leadership face hurdles at many levels, not just personal skill. To lift gender balance, we need plans that change systems, not just individual effort. Equality is not a side issue; it is key to better care for everyone. Future research should test which support tools work best.
