Women's Soccer: The New Concacaf W Champions Cup Kicks Off
North AmericaMon Oct 07 2024
Are you ready for some exciting women's soccer action? The first-ever Concacaf W Champions Cup is here! This tournament is like the men's version but with a twist – it's all about the women's teams. The goal is to bring together the best teams from North America and let them battle it out. This tournament is a big deal because it's also a qualifier for the upcoming FIFA Women's Club World Cup.
Three top teams from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) are in the mix. These are the reigning champions, NJ/NY Gotham FC, the 2023 NWSL Shield winners, San Diego Wave, and the NWSL Shield runners-up, Portland Thorns. Eleven teams in total are participating, with three coming from Mexico's Liga MX Femenil.
The tournament starts with a preliminary round where two teams fight for a spot in the group stage. The group stage happens this fall, and the top two teams from each group move on to the semifinals. These semifinal and final matches will be single-elimination games next spring.
You can catch all the action on CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network, Paramount+, and CBS Sports Golazo Network. So, mark your calendars and get ready for some thrilling soccer!
