WWII Hero's Bones Return Home After 80 Years

Joseph Gala was a young soldier who died in action in Burma back in 1944. He was only 21 years old when the war took him away. His body was finally positively identified in September 2025. This breakthrough came thanks to advances in DNA technology. The identification was confirmed by his obituary.

Gala grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts. He finished high school at Lynn English High School before joining the Army in May 1943. His family includes his sister Anna and her husband Charles. They also have sister Carol and her husband Nicholas. His brothers Frank and Charlie are part of the family too. Everyone waited for news about him.

The remains came to Boston's Logan International Airport on a Friday. The family helped transport them back to Lynn. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Thursday at noon. The ceremony is in the World War II section of Pine Grove Cemetery. The public is welcome to attend. This is a moment for the whole community to remember him.
