X is set to let people buy and sell stocks and cryptocurrencies right inside the app. The move comes a few weeks after the platform teased a new “Smart Cashtags” tool that shows live price tags for companies and digital coins. The feature will let users trade directly from their feed, turning X into a one‑stop shop for social media and finance. The idea isn’t new. Back in 2022, X rolled out a basic Cashtag system that showed price charts for big names like Bitcoin and Ether. It was pulled later, but the company is reviving it with extra trading power. The upgrade could help X reach its ambition of becoming an “everything app, ” a goal shared by owner Elon Musk, who compared it to China’s WeChat that blends messaging and payments.
Musk also talked about X Money, a payment tool that lets users send cash to one another. He said it is still in beta for a couple of months and will launch worldwide afterward. “We want people to be able to live their lives on X, ” he told a crowd at his AI firm’s all‑hands meeting. With around 600 million monthly users, X is aiming to make every transaction—whether a tweet or a transfer—happen in one place. The company has yet to confirm the exact launch date for Smart Cashtags, and no official statement has answered questions from reporters. Still, the upcoming updates signal a clear push toward integrating financial services into social media.
