X Turns Into a Trading Hub With New Stock Feature
San Francisco, USASat Apr 18 2026
The social media giant X has added a new tool that lets users see live stock and crypto prices right inside the app.
The feature, called Cashtags, started on Tuesday night and has already moved about $1 billion worth of trades.
Only people in the United States and Canada who use iPhones can try it now, but X plans to expand later.
Cashtags work like a shortcut: when someone posts a ticker symbol, others can tap it to see real‑time charts and related posts.
This makes the platform a quick way for fans of finance to stay updated without leaving X.
Wealthsimple, an online broker in Canada, teamed up with X to let users click a Cashtag and be taken straight to its trading page.
A similar link for U. S. investors is still missing, so the feature isn’t yet fully global.
X’s owner Elon Musk wants the app to be an “everything” place, adding payments and shopping next.
He’s already testing a new payment service called X Money that offers things like cashback cards and interest‑earning accounts.
A beta test showed Musk sending money to actor William Shatner, a nod to pop culture.
X has earned licenses in more than 40 U. S. states and joined the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, which helps it run safe money transfers on the platform.
