Yacht Captain Jason Chambers Fights Back with Second Skin Cancer Opinion
Bali, IndonesiaTue Dec 17 2024
Recently, Jason Chambers, the star captain from "Below Deck Down Under, " announced he's dealing with skin cancer. He revealed this news through a video on Instagram, where he explained he had a biopsy during his vacation in Bali. The results showed he has melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer.
Melanoma is tricky because it comes from the skin cells that give us color. When these cells start acting crazy and growing out of control, it's a problem. Doctors describe it as a dangerous form of skin cancer.
Chambers, who's 52 years old, is not sitting back and accepting the first diagnosis. He's getting a second opinion from doctors back home in Australia. These experts aren't too happy with the initial results that suggested stage two cancer treatment, which would involve removing a larger skin area and testing the glands. He's still waiting for the test results from Bali, and it might take until after Christmas. It's a tough wait, but he's hoping for the best.
Sunscreen wasn't a part of Captain Chambers' routine in the past. He thought he was okay because he spent a lot of time outdoors and only protected his nose with zinc. Times have changed, and there are plenty of chemical-free sunscreens out there now. He encourages his followers to use sunscreen, find shade, and protect their skin while enjoying the sun.
He shared that he thought his body was resistant to sun damage, but a skin spot turned into melanoma within six months. Early detection is crucial. He’s anxious but staying positive while waiting for his second opinion. His fans and fellow "Below Deck" captains are rooting for him.
