Yellowstone's Surprising Death and Kayce's Investigation
Montana, USATue Nov 26 2024
Last night's Yellowstone episode was all about Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). He's the youngest son of the late patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who was written off the show after some issues with the showrunner. The big shocker? Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), Jamie Dutton's (Wes Bentley) girlfriend, gets killed. She was working with the Duttons' enemy, Market Equities, and convinced Jamie to kill John.
Olivieri had a short run on the show, but her role as Faith Hill's sister in 1883 was memorable. Fans might see her again in another Taylor Sheridan series.
Back to Kayce. He found out how three mercenaries killed John. They drugged him, shot him, and made it look like a suicide. Kayce, using his livestock commissioner badge, pushed the coroner to reopen the case. He was right – John was restrained before being shot.
Kayce's findings stirred things up. The death broker Sarah hired got spooked and called Jamie. Kayce confronted Jamie, but Jamie swore he wasn't involved. Kayce didn't seem convinced.
Meanwhile, Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) visited the ranch to support Kayce and Beth (Kelly Reilly). Beth saw an opportunity to keep the land with Rainwater's help.
The new governor was sworn in and backed Jamie's plan to sell the ranch. But Kayce found enough evidence to change John's death from suicide to murder. The new governor stopped Jamie's plan and kept him out of the land transfer.
Sarah was having lunch when she heard the news. John's death was now a homicide. She tried to call her hitman but was shot by someone else. Jamie was left crying, knowing he was in trouble.
Beth usually takes revenge, but Kayce showed his smarts this time. As a former soldier, he's no stranger to killing. But he used his brain here. And let's not forget Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Beth's husband. He's loyal to John and might show some serious anger soon.
