Yokohama Rubber Cuts Carbon Footprint by 2035
Hiratsuka, JapanWed May 06 2026
Yokohama Rubber Co. has set a clear plan to slash its greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, and the Science Based Targets initiative has officially approved these goals. The company will aim to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by more than six‑thirds compared with its 2024 levels. These scopes cover the direct emissions from factories and the indirect emissions from purchased electricity.
In addition, Yokohama Rubber targets a 37. 5% drop in Scope 3 emissions by the same year. Scope 3 covers everything from the products customers buy to the energy used in the supply chain that is not part of Scope 1 or 2. The company has been reporting these indirect emissions since 2013, giving a transparent view of its environmental impact.
To meet the ambitious targets, Yokohama Rubber is investing in solar panels at its global plants and shifting to renewable electricity. These steps help lower the carbon released from daily operations and demonstrate a concrete move toward sustainability.
The validation by SBTi means the company’s goals align with Paris Agreement science. It shows Yokohama Rubber is serious about addressing climate change and encourages other firms to follow suit.
By 2035, the company hopes its combined efforts will bring about a significant reduction in its overall carbon footprint. This pledge not only benefits the planet but also strengthens Yokohama Rubber’s reputation as a responsible industry leader.
